Let Go
By Lisa A. McCrohan
There comes a moment
when you know
that it’s time
time to stop
worrying, hurrying,
grasping, trying,
denying,
analyzing
every
last
possible permutation
and let go.
Simply open those precious,
overworked, tightly clenched
fists of yours
and feel the emptiness,
the air across
your bare palms
and let go.
Hands open
palms up
empty
let go.
Let go of the grasping,
reaching, trying, and prying.
Mind open
eyes softened
and clear.
Let go.
Let go of the thoughts,
plans, past, and expectations.
Let go.
Jump, leap, dance,
stand in stillness –
in your power.
Feel your truth rising.
Let go.
Even the earth pauses
and watches you
supports you
with a resounding, “Yes.”
Let go into the YES
the YES of allowing,
flowing, trusting
feeling light washing over you
in every cell
cleansing, clearing,
renewing.
Nothing makes sense
and you don’t care
it’s not supposed to.
Your guide is now
the Voice Within
growing strong,
rising.
Let go.
Fear is here
and that is fine.
You have no desire to
conquer her,
change, deny, or push her way.
You see her now as a friend
an ally
whose one desire was to
keep you safe.
But you’ve outgrown
the boat she carried you in
for so long.
Let go.
Nothing to fix,
do, be, pretend,
or deny now
only light
truth
rising.
Hands open
palms up
heart strong
shining
glimmering
embodying
beating to the pulse of
“YES.”

** Letting go. We often grip tightly to what we know we are being called to let go. And yet there comes a moment when we finally must answer “YES” to what is Sacred within us. So your hands open. What doesn’t matter falls away. Fear may try to grip you, but your heart is strong now. And a deep sense of freedom swims across your chest. You are free. There is no forcing “letting go.” Instead of trying to talk yourself into letting go, you can drop into what is Sacred Within You calling to you. And then organically, your hands — and heart — open.

Dear Ones, much of the work I do in Coaching and Somatic Psychotherapy is about creating the sacred space for you to listen deeply and organically feel the unfolding of your own Wisdom, guiding you to let go and to embrace what truly matters — with devotion and clarity. Contact me if you want to learn more.
Blessings,
Just beautiful, Lisa. And ‘Compassion Coach’ is perfect. xoxo
Susan! Thanks! Yes, like FARM GIRL SUSAN! Love to you! Lisa
Beautiful!!! You have such a way with words! I am calmed and feel at peace each time I read your heartfelt messages, my friend. Thank you!
Girl, my goodness, your words bring thousands to tears! How many times have I been laying in bed with my little ones thinking of the words you have just written? I am sooo grateful for the work you do and how you are following your dream to be a writer AND a mindful, undistracted mama. Love to you, Rachel. Can’t wait for your BOOK! Love, Lisa
“Your guide is now / the Voice Within / growing strong, / rising.” Lisa, this is a beautiful and hopeful poem for anyone who doubts his or her own voice. Well said, as always. Blessings, Mark
Mark, thank you. That means a lot coming from you as a writer and poet. Many blessings, Lisa
This is one I am going to print off and tape inside my kitchen cabinet door so I can read it frequently and be uplifted. It is beautiful. Worth reading again and again – and remembering. Thank you, Lisa. 🙂 Yes!! 🙂
Jan, do you know that it’s only over the last few years that I’ve printed out my poems and put them up for all to see when they walk in our house? Why is that?! Fear of being vulnerable, fear of appearing weak, fear of letting people “in” to the intimate stirrings of my Heart. Well, as I approach 40, that fear may still be there but even stronger now is the Voice from Within. And honestly, I’m getting much more bold! Next step is recording MY voice reading some of my poetry and recording podcasts of mindful strategies for everyday life!
Thanks, Jan, for your encouragement. I know you get allll of this! You wise mama, you!
I do get it, Lisa…. by maybe not ALL. Wisdom comes little by little. In my mid-70s, I’m still working at it!
Jan, isn’t that amaaaazing?! Yes, little by little. I am seeing, too, how when I just go about the daily task of being present with whatever rises up within me; when I be with those waves of whatever rises; over time, something softens, something emerges, and then there is this MOMENT of clarity, this moment of it all culminating and there is a deeep truth that emerges…and WE emerge from it totally changed from just a moment ago. I’m actually about to post another poem, “When Certainty Arrives”, some time today that’s about just this!
Ok blessings to you, wise mama in her mid 70’s!
Wow Lisa – this was like a guided meditation for me. Another for your audio – yes!!! I loved it… freeing and affirming. Felt like the most comforting of arms holding me safe and assuring me “it will be ok” no matter what. Brava dear friend — Outstanding!!! Lots of Love — Robyn
Yes to your beautiful poem, yes to the title Compassion Coach. The Yes is to love isn’t it. Loving life…Thanks for this gift
Alison, there is a lot of YES happening here lately. I even created a greeting card that says, “Sometimes the most courageous thing we can do in a day is say YES.” As I write this, this encourages me to share it – either on FB or here on the Barefoot Barn’s blog. Alison it’s a treat to connect with you. love, Lisa
Thank you Lisa! This is EXACTLY what I am “working on” right now. Letting go is the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my entire life. But I am taking baby steps!
~Stanley
Stanley,
This is what I find, too, that there only ARE baby steps! Well, at least there are only the “everyday” steps I can take – -in THIS moment, with THIS breath, can I let go? Or “what is calling me to let go”? And then I breathe in to it just a bit. Then another moment arrives and I ask the same question. Then, something shifts. Maybe not even necessarily in that moment or on that day. But I start to notice something after while — a sense of openness..a sense of liberation…an invitation to completely let go…and then GRACE to do it. Does that resonate with you, too? Many blessings, Lisa
Yes Lisa it really resonates with me! I shared it with my therapist and she thought it was beautiful! Thank you for ALL you do!
Stanley
Stanley! This delighted my hear to hear! Lovely! Lisa
Lisa, just love this, been working on letting go for 22yrs very hard to just let something go!! copy this and put it in the front page of my journal so when I need to take a deep breath and let go, your poem is there to read!! Thank you, Suss
Susan, I soooo hear you. Yes, I have found, too, that “letting go” (like “healing”, like “wellness”, like “forgiveness”, like “self-compassion”), comes in waves…comes in seasons…has many layers. I find, too, that just when I think I’ve really “let go,” another invitation arrives to let go even more or in another area of my life. I may not notice it at first, but then it I start to hear its whispers.
I’m really, glad, Susan, that this poem so resonates with you! You are encouraging ME to print out my own poem and post it on my frig! Thank you, dear soul sister. Blessings, Lisa
