I woke up early this morning. I heard the rain gently falling on the roof. I exhaled deeply before I was conscious that, yes, I need rainy days. I need rainy days to regroup, draw my energy “closer in”, and to be with the deeper currents within me that I may not see or notice when we are totally in “Summer mode” — out and about, playing, running around, making magic, being with friends and family. So today, I am grateful to start the morning “closer in.” Tending to the currents – named and unnamed – within me as I tend to my little ones.
Several folks – friends, readers, dear ones – have shared with me how Summer energy can get “too much” – too much pitta, too much fire, too much being out in the world. This is a call for balance. For inviting in a bit of quiet, cooling down, and drawing the energy we’ve put out into the world back into our own hearts and bodies…for a little bit. To rebalance. To restore a sense of inner strength and harmony.
Blessings for tending to closer to home today.
Blessings,
Morning Lisa and your words are lovely! When we are in the NOW and find the light within we start to expect miracles and there is now harmony and peace rather than chaos and negativity. Blessings Colleen.
Colleen, good morning! Yes, you are so right on!!!
Lisa, this as your writing always does, really hit home with me today. We are constantly on the run, especially in the summer and I am really looking forward to picking the kids up from camp today and just having fun at home. It was great seeing you all at the lake the other day. Enjoy your quiet day with your little ones.
Beth, thank you for your kind words. Yes, it was lovely to see you. I am telling you — I saw you from behind but didn’t recognize you in the water. I saw “a boy” (your son!) going to you and “this mom” totally embracing him with such regard. In an instant, I smiled deeply, exhaled and thought, “how how lovely it is to see a parent so beautifully regarding her son!” The scene softly restored my faith in humanity. As I told you, I had seen a lot of parents this month at the pool treat their little ones so harshly – in ways that break my heart. And then I saw it was you! What a treasure for me to see. Thank you, Beth. Blessings, Lisa
The seasonal foods keep us in sync with the flux of energy outside. Summer fruit is expansive and cooling. The bounty of the fall draws us back into ourself, helps sinks us again in preparation for winter.
Yes, these rhythms of nature that resonate with the rhythms within us (well, actually WE resonate with NATURE’S rhythms!). I very much honor the movements of the seasons. I found myself and hearing others talk about the overflow of pita energy, the solar energy, and needing to quell it a bit, as Robyn said above. We are beautifully honoring ourselves.
You’ll see yourself in my latest post.
I do know what you mean Lisa ~ sometimes I am happy when awake to the pitter patter of rain on my window in summer (even if my muscles and joints complain)… it gives us great permission to regroup and find our center again (as you say quell the raging fire/Pita some) …. soothing and peaceful too. Your words are so lovely as always ~ much enjoyed~ Love to you, x RL
Thank you, Robyn. I hear you about how the weather can affect your muscles and joints, dear heart! I didn’t think about that. How lovely of you to be able to find/discover the opportunity in the rainy day that brings aches. Love to you, Robyn. Lisa
Such lovely words. Rainy days always make me want to curl up with a good book, a cup of tea and a warm afghan – tending to my soul with quiet stillness.
Crowing Crone Joss, YES! I thought of this this morning, too! But alas, with two little ones, I had about 15 minutes of that “curling up” and that was glorious! And even though the rain stopped – early this morning actually – I found myself today going about the day maintaining a bit of stillness to myself, tending to my soul in little ways, drawing my energy inward. Thank you for being here, wise crone. Lisa
I’ve liked the rain this summer for this. But it has been weird rainy hours with the sun before and after bright as ever. I need a full on rainy day! xo
Jodi, YES! I know what you mean!!! I honestly thought that we would have a full on rainy day. But the sun came out early. This summer has been really strange like that! While I could’ve used the whole day for just being around home, I was washing the dishes, looking out at the sunny day now, and thought, “well, what a way to honor the day – let’s go show some kindness to others.” So we brought some things to a family we know, helped out another mama, and left “get well” cards to a friend who just broke his arm. It was lovely. I’ll take a full on rainy day still, though!!!
Took our kids camping to “slow down” and “reconnect.” Feel more exhausted because we ran around the state park doing things the whole time. I’m crossing my fingers that the rain my meteorologist promised actually arrives so we are forced to stay in and unwind from our trip!
