Returning to the Waters
It serves a soul every now and then
to go completely off the grid,
let our nervous system settle,
reconnect with what matters most,
unplug and allow ourselves to be nourished.
It serves a family every now and then
to drop the busy,
reconnect and hug and laugh together,
go on an adventure together –
even if that means transforming the backyard
into a magical fortress made with sheets and clothes pins.
It serves a body every now and then
to feel our bare feet upon the earth and pause
instead of letting the clock hurry our feet,
to feel the pulsation of creation
bringing our breath back into alignment with
its rhythm.
It serves a spirit every now and then
to return to the ocean and
hear the ancient, familiar sounds
of waves crashing on the shore
then softly receding
back into the vast ocean,
reminding us,
returning us
to our first home
where we were rocked
and held and nourished
in water.

Dear Community, This blog will be quiet for awhile as we take some time to replenish, renew, be together, and nourish our family. Just for fun, if you are looking for something sweet to read, try going back to some of the archives on this blog. I do that every so often on the blogs I follow and I find that even if I come upon a post I had read before, I see it with a different light, and it nourishes me again in this season of my life. I hope you and your dear ones have a chance to unwind and reconnect this summer. Many blessings and I look forward to returning to this community in a few weeks.
Blessings,
Thank you for a lovely post Lisa. Wishing you and yours a joy filled break.
Nols, thank you, dear heart! It’s lovely to take a break from “taking a break” and read these encouraging words here! Love, Lisa
Lisa I am in awe of this post. Of course the sea – there is no more soothing place for me. Also I will be announcing a need to also go off the grid for a bit. I wish it was for the same reason as you, but instead it’s time for more medical investigations and decisions… I will keep you in heart – and hope you and yours have a wonderful summer’s end. x much love, RL
Robyn, dear heart, I’ll be thinking of you. Please, keep me posted. I think about you so often. My best and deepest well wishes are with you, Robyn. Love, Lisa
Tennyson was born in water at home – to music. 😉
Wishing you joyful respite from the busy.
Love,
Diana
Diana, ohhhhhh how lovely that is to hear! It was my dream for my babies to be born like your Tennyson, but that is not what their spirits and the universe had other plans. Sooooo beautiful, Diana! I’d love to hear your birth story some time. Love, Lisa
Dear Lisa, Oh my, oh my, oh my. This is what happens when I go to La. to visit my family and I leave my laptop home. I have a “dumb phone” so I have no way of connecting with anyone electronically. As a result, I spend my time immersed in people and life.
These past nine days in La. I found myself suspended in loving-kindness. I’m still overwhelmed with gratitude for the experience of being present to family. I love this poem and will repost.
Brenda, this is how we were in Costa Rica this last week!!! No smart phone (I love the phrase – dumb phone!). Yes, we are present, we are immersed in the people and the life right around us. I am sooooo deeply loving how you were so “suspended” in loving kindness. Doesn’t that just nourish your heart and then it can’t help but move within you and around you to nourish and inspire and “suspend” others in such loving kindness?! I’m grateful you loved this poem. It is a dear one to my heart! Love, Lisa
How did I miss this gem? Love it so much!
Jodi, I don’t even know now if I posted it on FB before we left for Costa Rica! The water was already calling me! Thank you, again, for sharing my post today. I am so grateful to be connecting with you. Love, Lisa
