This is Peace, Honey
This is peace, Honey.
Waking up to the sun filtering in through the window
slowly dancing sunbeams on your skin.
Taking your time.
Knowing you haven’t missed anything
and you are not behind.
You are protected.
You are guided.
Dive deep into this peace
pooling in your heart, Dear Love.
Let every muscle absorb it.
Let it swirl in every organ.
Let your connective tissue and blood
carry peace into every cell in your
precious body.
Then lavish in it.
This is peace, Honey.
Taking your time.
Remembering that harshness
is not your way.
The stories of having to produce,
having to hurry, and having to do
something that someone else defines as
significant in order to matter
are all made up.
What is true is this:
to touch into the peace that resides within you,
to finally feel your body fully soften into
the hand of the Divine as though
you are gently rocking in a hammock
on a summer day
is your birthright.

On summer days, you can often find me in our backyard in our hammock between clients — or after a day of seeing clients. Even just three minutes of fully allowing myself to be held in the hammock, I feel like I am letting go of any energy that isn’t mine, and relaxing more into myself. It’s like a way of collecting energy of mine that might be “out there” and rocking back into my own self and body. I often like to imagine I am surrendering into something bigger than me — the Divine, God, Great Mother.
Our nervous systems need these mini (and big!) breaks. They need these experiences of turning down the “tone” of the sympathetic nervous system, and tuning into the experience of the parasympathetic state of “rest and digest” — and, what I like to call “safe, softened and soothed.”
As fall arrives in this month of September with its cooler weather and more active schedules, a hammock moment is still a super nourishing practice. Even if you don’t have a hammock, taking a moment and imagining you are in one can soothe you. These mini somatic moments are even more necessary as our schedules get busier so that we can feel a sense of peace within us.
Try this for yourself:
Sacred Somatic Practice: Held in a Hammock
If you have a hammock, great. If you have to imagine it, no problem. Imagining is just as effective for your nervous system: I’ll lead this as if you are imagining being in a hammock.
If you can, lay on the ground, couch, or bed.
Take a moment to let your body feel supported.
Soften or close your eyes, if you’d like.
Take a few breaths. Let your body receive these breaths.
Imagine lying in a hammock on the kind of day that you love – the weather is just perfect for you.
Evoke your senses. Notice what you touch, see, hear, smell, and taste.
As you lay here, imagine you that your whole body and soul are relaxing into the hammock of your true self. .
Feel your body and soul being held.
Feel yourself relaxing into your true self.
Spend a few minutes noticing the calm and peace in you now.
Soon, I am going to be sharing more sacred somatic practices that nourish your nervous system, mind, body, and soul. If you’d like to be on my list, please sign up.
